The Street and Sanitation Division operates 2 semi-automated garbage trucks, 2 side-loading dumpster trucks and one brush chipper. They collect an average of 42 tons of garbage from residential homes and small businesses per week.

Besides taking care of the streets of Allendale, the department is responsible for maintaining the grass and clearing excess undergrowth. This helps for visibility and safety, but just as importantly, it helps to keep the city attractive. It also helps by reducing various pests and rodents that would exist in higher abundance if given the shelter of tall grass or weeds. The department is also responsible for trimming back any low hanging branches from trees along the right-of-way.

The Town of Allendale Water & Sewer Department puts in all water and sewer taps and recently installed new water meter for town residents. Water meters were installed to measure consumption with greater accuracy.  Valves were also installed to control the flow of water passing through the meter.

Along with the maintenance and repair of all pipelines comes the protection of all drinking water from contaminants. Each water line that is tapped to the city mainline must have a backflow preventer that prevents water from reentering the main water line. Annual inspection of each device is required to meet the current SCDHEC standards.

Used water, also called wastewater, has its own piping system to deliver it to the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Manholes are installed along this line to allow access for cleaning and inspection.

The Allendale Police Department is devoted to maintaining public order, preventing crime and apprehending offenders in a fair and just manner. Our police officers are trained in special duties such as counter-terrorism; surveillance; child protection; and investigating major crime such as fraud, rape, murder, and drug distribution. Allendale Police Officers are also responsible for reporting minor offenses for violations of traffic law.

They function to discourage, deter and investigate crimes, with particular emphasis on crime against people, property and the maintenance of public order.  They strive to strengthen partnerships between police officers and the community while actively identifying and solving crime within the neighborhood.

The Allendale Police Department is committed to preserving peace and order and will continually enhance the quality of life of its citizens.

Town Departments

The Street and Sanitation Department works continuously to keep City streets in good condition.  This is accomplished by the Sanitation staff of dedicated employees that goes into neighborhoods on assigned days and collects household and commercial garbage as well as yard trash.  The Street Department’s primary objectives are to keep the city looking its best at all times.
